The first thing you need to know about Dr. Moiya McTier is that she’s simply the best we’ve got. That’s it. Everyone else is a pretender to the throne. The contest ended when she entered it. When I say my research is conclusive, this is the research and the conclusion I’m referring to. I’m not taking questions at this time.
“Folklorist to the stars & astrophysicist to the folks” 😭 🏆
As an undergrad, Moiya took one look at Harvard’s conventional double-major options and said, “Did a conventional double-major write this?”
She became the first Harvard student ever to major in astronomy and mythology. Since graduating in 2016, that sovereign decision has erupted in a dazzling display of science communication the likes of which we haven’t seen since Ms. Frizzle drove a school bus through space to shut Janet up.
In 2021, she completed a PhD in astronomy at Columbia as the first Black woman to graduate from the program. She literally wrote the book on our galaxy at the same time and—spoiler alert—it’s exceptional. That’s 3 lifetime achievements most of us could only dream of, and I haven’t even mentioned the others yet, and Moiya is out there accomplishing something else as I type this. I know it in my bones!
